Red Wine & Fat Burning - September 3rd, 2009

Apparently red wine is healthy. Of course it is in moderation. They say a glass of red wine a day is a great way to fight infection, lower cholesterol, help prevent circulatory and heart disease and prevent blood clots. Wine is better for you than other kinds of alcohol because it contains a high concentration of flavonoids. Researchers believe these compounds may have more heart-protective effects than vitamin E. They say that flavonoids help keep dangerous LDL cholesterol from sustaining free radical damage, which can cause them to stick to artery walls.

Red wine contains very concentrated amounts of flavonoids, more so than white wine. The longer the wine ferments, the more flavonoids that are released, and red wine does indeed ferment much longer than white wine. Something else that is interesting about wine is that in the pass it was used as a disinfectant and antiseptic. There is a down side to wine, it may contain added preservatives, flavors and colors that may not be listed on the label. Red wine can cause migraine headaches in some people.
